• Madrid. Advances the curfew at 10 p.m., at 9 p.m. the closing of bars and limits meetings to four people

"To ruin the hospitality industry, they don't count on me

.

"

The president of the Community of Madrid was so blunt this Wednesday about the possibility of further reducing the hours of bars and restaurants in the region, which from Monday have to close at 10 pm.

In fact, Isabel Díaz Ayuso slipped the possibility that if new restrictive measures were adopted for this sector - which in her opinion "is doing well" - they would be in line with the reduction of capacity.

However, despite the reluctance of the leader of the PP, the meteoric rise in infections by coronavirus in the region in the last week has led the health authorities to advance to nine at night the time when these establishments will have to be empty.

In practice, the application of

this measure eliminates the dinner shift

with the consequent reduction in social encounters, which are around 80% of the cases identified in the region.

To try to contain the spread,

the curfew will begin at 10:00 p.m.

, 60 minutes earlier than until now, and will last until 6:00 a.m.

Meetings in private homes are also prohibited and the number of people who can meet in hospitality establishments is reduced from six to four, both inside them, where the use of the bar is still not allowed, and in the terraces.

The measures that the Community of Madrid will apply

as of this Monday, January 25

, and for at least 14 days are the most drastic that the regional government has adopted since the end of the confinement decreed in mid-March, since during the second peak of infections in the month of September managed to bend the curve without further shortening the hours of bars and restaurants.

The change in strategy comes after the cumulative incidence of cases in the last two weeks has skyrocketed to 875 per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to the national average of 795.

In addition, the basic health areas will be expanded to 56 and to 25 the municipalities that will be closed perimeter, so that both entry and exit will be prohibited except for justified reasons, although its residents can move freely through the interior.

In total, there will be

1,600,000 citizens

who wake up on Monday in areas with mobility restrictions - 24% of the population - where practically 30% of the positives are concentrated.

15% more positives

In the Madrid Executive they attribute the 28,870 new infections,

15% more than the previous week

, to the effect of family and social gatherings during Christmas and also to the spread of the British strain of the virus, which already represents between 7% and 33% of the positives identified.

"This largely explains what is happening," according to the Deputy Minister of Public Health and Covid-19 Plan, Antonio Zapatero, who states that the new strain is not a more virulent variant, but is more contagious.

For this reason, the Community of Madrid has once again asked the central government to

"intensify" air controls

and other means of transport to monitor its spread.

"Although the Ministry of Health does not give importance to it, we do, and a lot", they conclude.
