Elected officials, personalities, trade unionists and citizens on Friday launched a call for a rally from the first turn of the left for the regional in Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur, an initiative reminiscent of the "Marseille Spring", victorious in the municipal elections in Marseille this summer.

"It is time to build public policies geared towards the general interest, the development of sustainable jobs and quality public services, the preservation of agricultural, coastal and natural spaces eroded by artificialization", write the signatories in this article. text called “Il est temps” and published by the regional daily

La Marseillaise

.

“In our region and the departments managed by The Republicans and their allies, and in the face of the danger of the extreme right, we are paying dearly, on a daily basis, for five years of weakening public services, shrinking social budgets, reducing aid to the associative sector… ”, they criticize.

Among the some 200 signatories of this text are the ephemeral ecological mayor of Marseille Michèle Rubirola, now 1st deputy, actress Ariane Ascaride, PCF senator Jérémy Bacchi, the mayor of the Marseille sector and deputy to Jean-Luc Mélenchon to the National Assembly Sophie Camard or even the PS mayor of Avignon Cécile Helle but also the "co-leader" in the regional elections for La France Insoumise Luc Leandri.

The EELV activists a little less hot

First small hitch in this desire for union: at the very beginning of the week, the EELV activists of the region preferred to the motion carried by Olivier Dubuquoy, their official leader for these regions, signatory of this call, the motion worn by Isabelle Urban and Jean-Yves Petit.

Arrived at the head with 235 votes against 220, the latter advocate the establishment of an "ecological pole" bringing together all the ecological parties before the discussion with the other left forces, even if they too militate for "an opening phase from the first round ”.

In Marseille during the municipal elections, EELV had already chosen to go it alone in the first round, without immediately allying with the Marseille Spring, which brought together most of the left-wing forces and which it rallied in the second round.

During the 2015 regional elections, Christophe Castaner withdrew his PS candidacy between the two rounds to block the National Front led by Marion Maréchal-Le Pen, paving the way for the victory of LR, then led by Christian Estrosi.

Renaud Muselier has since succeeded him as president of the region.

Theoretically scheduled for June, the next regional elections are subject to strong uncertainties due to the health situation.
