Hildesheim / Berlin (dpa) - The Berlin Volleys have lost ground in the Bundesliga despite a victory in the battle for the championship lead.

The runner-up in the table from the capital came to a 3: 2 (25:19, 24:26, 25:17, 21:25, 24:22) success at the eighth Grizzlys Giesen on Saturday after a hard fight, but lost due to the two lost sentences completely surprising an important point.

For the first time after weeks of injury breaks, player Sergej Grankin and outside attacker Samuel Tuia were back in the starting lineup for the volleys.

The Russian Grankin in particular was convincing in the first set with his variable game design and often brought his teammates into favorable final situations.

The serves of the guests were shockingly weak.

This led to the fact that the Giesener, who were fighting hard for the playoff places, gradually took courage against the big favorites and made the set equalization in the second round with the third set ball.

Volley's trainer Cedric Enard responded.

At the beginning of the third section he brought on Denis Kaliberda for Tuia, who has not yet found his usual rhythm after an ankle injury.

Pujol later replaced Grankin in the pass, while Kaliberda had to give way again for Cody Kessel.

The personnel changes could not prevent the Giesener from reaching the tiebreak.

The BR Volleys only used the eighth match point in the decisive set for their lucky victory.
