Four civilians, including two children, were killed as a result of Israeli shelling yesterday dawn on Hama Governorate in central Syria, according to the official Syrian News Agency (SANA).

"SANA" quoted a Syrian military source as saying that the Syrian air defenses responded at dawn to Israeli missiles and "dropped most of them" in Hama governorate.

The source said later: “The Israeli air aggression resulted in the death of a family, including a father, a mother and two children.” Four others, including two children, were wounded, and three houses were destroyed in the western edge of Hama.

On the other hand, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights gave another account of the killing of civilians.

The director of the observatory, Rami Abdul-Rahman, told AFP that "the Syrian defenses managed to shoot down a number of Israeli missiles," and that "the remnants of an air defense missile landed on a house in a popular neighborhood on the outskirts of the city, killing civilians."

On the other hand, the United Nations said that it had received reports of the killing of 12 Syrians and Iraqis in the first half of January in the Al-Hol refugee camp, run by the Kurds in northeastern Syria, which includes internally displaced persons and families of ISIS members.

"We call on the authorities responsible for security in this camp to ensure the safety of the residents as well as the relief workers," said the spokesman for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Jens Lairke.

"All aid deliveries are at risk when the level of insecurity rises to what we see now," he added in a statement to the United Nations in Geneva.

He pointed out that the camp, which is under the control of Syrian Kurdish forces, houses about 62,000 people from different countries.
