Syria: 4 civilians were killed due to an Israeli bombardment targeting Hama

Four civilians, including two children, were killed by Israeli shelling that targeted Hama governorate in central Syria at dawn on Friday, according to the official Syrian News Agency (SANA).

SANA quoted a Syrian military source as saying that the Syrian air defenses responded at dawn to Israeli missiles and “dropped most of them” in Hama governorate.

The source said later, "The Israeli air aggression ... resulted in the killing of a family, including a father, mother and two children."

In addition, four others, including two children, were wounded, and three houses were destroyed at the western edge of Hama.

On the other hand, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights gave another account of the killing of civilians.

The director of the observatory, Rami Abdul Rahman, told AFP that "the Syrian defenses managed to shoot down a number of Israeli missiles," and that "the remnants of an air defense missile landed on a house in a popular neighborhood on the outskirts of the city, killing civilians."

According to the observatory, the Israeli raids targeted military sites, and resulted in the destruction of at least five military sites belonging to the Syrian army in the vicinity of Hama, where Iranian fighters and members of the Lebanese Hezbollah were also present.

There was no comment from the Israeli side about the strikes.

In recent months, Israel has intensified its targeting of military and other sites for Iranian forces and groups loyal to it in several areas in Syria.

On January 13, the Israeli raids on weapons stores and military sites in eastern Syria resulted in the deaths of at least 57 Syrian forces and groups loyal to Iran, in a toll that is the highest since the start of the Israeli strikes in Syria.
