Pakistan announced the successful test-firing of a domestically made Shaheen-III surface-to-surface ballistic missile, and officials said it was capable of carrying nuclear warheads to a range of 2,750 km.

According to an army military statement, the test aimed to verify the accuracy of the design and technical parameters of the missile armament system.

The German news agency reported that officials confirmed, on Wednesday, that the missile is capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to a target at a distance of up to 2750 km, and official sources have previously confirmed that "Shaheen-3" has this capability.

President Ashraf Alawi and Prime Minister Imran Khan congratulated the scholars and the army on the success of the missile test.

The army did not say where the missile was launched.

But such tests are often carried out by Pakistan in the Arabian Sea.

Pakistan and India conducted nuclear tests within days of each other in May 1998, and since then the two neighbors have been competing to develop their stockpiles of nuclear warheads and missile launch system.
