Munich (dpa / lby) - Around two years after the reform initiative Maria 2.0 first made headlines, Munich now also has a group.

"We want a more humane church," said the spokeswoman for Maria 2.0 Munich, Renate Spannig, the German press agency.

At an online meeting on Friday evening (7 p.m.) the group wants to plan new activities.

Bavaria was previously considered a blank spot on the Maria 2.0 map.

While the movement was particularly strong elsewhere in Germany - especially in and around Münster - there have so far only been smaller groups in Würzburg and Passau in Bavaria.

According to Spannig, the Munich group has around 40 members.

The initiative advocates a different role for women in the Catholic Church and the fight against outdated and problematic structures.

She also wants to give victims of sexual abuse a voice in the church and works closely with other reform movements such as “We are Church”.
