Berlin (dpa / bb) - Unknown people poured white paint over and damaged the memorial plaque for Burak Bektas, who was killed in 2012, in Berlin-Buckow.

An employee of the project «Victim counseling and education against right-wing extremism and racism» informed the police on Thursday afternoon about the damage to property, as they announced on Friday.

In the immediate vicinity of the memorial plaque on the corner of Möwenweg and Laubsängerweg, the emergency services had a paint bucket with residual paint and disposable gloves as evidence.

The police state security is conducting the investigation.

The then 22-year-old Burak Bektas was shot dead by an unknown person on the night of April 5, 2012 on the street in Neukölln.

His family, their lawyer and a citizens' initiative have long accused the police of not investigating right-wing extremism enough.
