Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - old locomotives, rail buses or an entire Junkers aircraft - voluntary associations and initiatives are restoring historical means of transport in North Rhine-Westphalia and are receiving funding from the state for this this year as well.

The country announced on Friday that the funds had been increased to 700,000 euros for 2021.

Twelve projects are being funded this year - including the restoration of a historic steam locomotive in Mönchengladbach, the construction of a museum track system in Rheine and the restoration of a Junkers airliner in Paderborn - an aircraft known as "Tante Ju" that has been in operation since the 1930s was built and of which there are only a few airworthy copies left.
