Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - In the Magdeburg state parliament, prominent witnesses have been invited to a committee of inquiry into the state's own lottery society.

The two dismissed managing directors should testify today, as committee chief Andreas Steppuhn (SPD) said.

Former Interior Minister Holger Stahlknecht (CDU) is also invited.

The ministry includes the gambling supervision, which initiated administrative offense proceedings against the ex-lottery bosses for failures.

The employee of a consulting firm who was responsible for selecting personnel for the top positions was also invited, Steppuhn said.

It is the penultimate meeting of the U Committee before the end of the taking of evidence.

It should run in presence in the state parliament.

"You cannot question witnesses on video," said Steppuhn.

Several appointments were postponed due to the corona situation, now time is running out.

The final report must be ready before the state elections.

The U-Committee worked on the happenings in a Zerbster lottery shop, in which a few players made millions in profits.

Actually, he was used at the request of the opposition AfD parliamentary group to investigate the suspicion of whether it was money laundering or game manipulation.

That was not confirmed.

Several organized big players, including the shop owner, were able to achieve high profits, also because Landes-Lotto approved a higher gaming limit.

The managing directors at the time informed the money laundering office about anomalies, but not the responsible authorities and committees.

The country took action and dismissed both bosses without notice.
