Oldenburg (dpa) - A booming Christmas business brought the photo service provider Cewe a profit increase in the Corona year 2020.

According to preliminary figures, earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) rose by 39 percent to around 79 million euros, as the SDax-listed company surprisingly announced on Friday shortly before the stock market closed in Oldenburg.

The operating profit rose significantly faster than sales, which only climbed by around one percent to 727 million euros.

The increase in earnings is based on an even stronger Christmas business in photofinishing, it said.

In this area, Cewe offers classic and creative photo prints, photo books, murals and calendars as well as numerous photo gifts.

All product categories in the segment contributed to the growth.

This more than offset all negative effects of the pandemic on online printing and retail.

As usual, Cewe will publish the complete preliminary figures in February.

The audited annual financial statements should follow on March 25th.
