The relatives tell SVT Nyheter Småland that a nurse stepped into the woman's home on Thursday - without protective equipment such as a visor, mouth guard and apron.

The nurse should have spoken quickly and the older woman should not have understood what she was saying.

She is then said to have pulled down the sweater on the woman and injected a syringe with the covid vaccine.

- It was confusing for my relative and can almost be seen as an abuse, says a close relative of the woman we have chosen to call "Hanna".

Had your relative intended to take the corona vaccine or not?

- I do not think it matters whether she wanted to or not.

She was open to it, but did not want to take it right now.

It is about her being able to make the decision herself, says "Hanna".

The municipality's view

When SVT calls the operations manager for elderly care in Borgholm municipality, Maria Svanborg, she says they know about the incident, but that they do not have the same view of the incident as the relatives.

- I have been in contact with the nurse who says that she asked the woman if she wanted the vaccine, to which the woman should have answered yes, she says.

Completely clear in the head

The woman must have previously filled in a health declaration but did not perceive that it concerned the corona vaccine, but thought that it was a normal routine task to update current information.

She is described by her relatives as clear-headed despite her advanced age, but has impaired hearing and vision.

The impaired vision meant that she could not read the health declaration herself, and therefore could not see that it concerned the vaccine against covid-19.

She also does not feel that anyone has explained it to her.

Will answer yes

In addition, the health declaration must be preceded by a dialogue between the care staff and the care recipient in order for it to be counted as a consent, says Lars-Gunnar Fagerberg, acting social director in Borgholm municipality, to SVT.

- You get a concrete question if you want the vaccine, and if you answer yes to it, you have to fill in the health declaration, says Lars-Gunnar Fagerberg.
