Himmelpfort (dpa) - The police and the Deutsche Post are still looking for the sender of an explosive ammunition letter that was sent to the “Christmas post office in Himmelpfort” (Oberhavel) a month ago.

As a police spokeswoman in Neuruppin said on Friday, the December 22nd incident has not yet been resolved.

The investigations are difficult because the A4 envelope, in which there were more than 500 rounds of ammunition, had been posted without any usable reference to the sender.

According to the police, the envelope contained blanket ammunition and air rifle ammunition, some of which were "subject to authorization", as well as a shotgun cartridge.

The sender's motive is also unclear so far.

The Christmas post office has existed since 1984. The incident did not affect the increasing number of letters: According to Deutsche Post, in 2020, around 320,000 letters were sent to "Santa Claus in Himmelpfort" as many wish lists as never before.

One reason could have been the corona pandemic, it said.

With more than 21,000 letters, the number of wish lists from abroad has increased by a third compared to the previous year.
