Cologne (dpa) - The AfD is suing the Cologne Administrative Court against the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) located there.

The party had filed two lawsuits and two urgent motions, a court spokeswoman told the German press agency on Friday.

In it, the AfD applies on the one hand to forbid the protection of the Constitution to classify it as a suspected case and to make this public.

Secondly, the AfD is requesting that the Office for the Protection of the Constitution be forbidden from announcing how many members the so-called "wing" had until it closed itself or, according to information from the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, still has it today.

Among other things, the AfD invokes the parties' right to equal opportunities.

The court spokeswoman announced an interim decision by the court for Monday, a so-called hanging decision.

This is a provisional decision that can be made before the urgent application is made, i.e. especially at short notice.

According to media reports, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution wants to make a decision on how to deal with the AfD in the coming week.

Accordingly, the AfD should be declared a suspected right-wing extremist case.

Such a categorization, as well as a classification as certain extremist tendencies, can lead to an observation with intelligence means.

The domestic political spokesman for the Union faction, Mathias Middelberg (CDU), said the move shows the nervousness of the AfD.

"Apparently she expects the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution to have reliable, factual evidence of extremism not only in the" wing ", but in the party as a whole," he said.

"It is significant that the AfD wants to legally prevent a possible education of the public, instead of distancing itself more clearly than before from extremists in its ranks like Mr. Höcke."

Within the AfD, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution classified the “wing” founded in 2015 by the Thuringian regional chief Björn Höcke in the spring of last year as “proven extremist aspirations”.

This has now officially dissolved.
