TWIN MELODY.

Aitana and Paula Etxeberria.

Ordizia, 1997. They have 15.6 million followers on TikTok.

Yes, millions, this is not a typo.

And from there to conquer the world: they present a fixed section in

El Hormiguero

and prepare a new musical project with Sony.

You are followed by 15.6 million people on TikTok.

That is a medium country.

Are you not impressed? (Aitana) We prefer not to stop and think about it, because ... huff.

We are very grateful, but there are many people and it is better to imagine them one by one than all together so that we do not get vertigo.

And yet sometimes it hits you. How do we explain what you do to someone outside the world of social networks? (Paula) We are content creators and we also act and sing.

In fact we are preparing a new musical project that will come out shortly.

We dance and do choreography, yes, but also many more things.

We compose, we play the piano, we do the

challenges

make them fashionable, we prepare scripted videos, we give fashion advice, we have been actresses in several series ... We do everything!

It is a work of many hours. Are there still prejudices towards your work? (Aitana) Perhaps in people of other generations yes, but among young people, who are our audience, no.

The times change.

And those who are prejudiced it is because they do not understand the work that this entails, which is not just turning on the mobile and recording a video.

That sometimes we have to change our clothes 18 times or die of cold rolling in the street dressed for summer or spend all day thinking original ideas.

It's a lot of pressure, before this boom, you had already been on social media for many years.

How did you think of spending so much time on it? (Paula) As a hobby.

When we were 15 years old, we started recording YouTube videos.

Our versions of artists that we liked: One direction, Pink ... The truth is that we did not know where we were getting and my mother was quite scared.

His two youngest daughters on the internet without knowing what kind of people were watching the videos ... He was worried that our room would be seen and we would be kidnapped.

But then it calmed down and we continued to grow in other networks: Facebook, Instagram ... Until we got to TikTok a bit to try, we got into all the networks and, look, it worked. Did your mother's fears have base?

Do you receive many unpleasant messages? (Aitana) Threats or violent messages not many and not very credible, the kind that you see that they have written at the moment without thinking, that there is no plan.

The ones we do get enough of are risque and sexist.

Two young girls dancing and such ... there are always comments in that tone.

And not only from men, we also receive nasty criticism from women.

But they are a minority and we do not give them importance. Two sisters working all day together ... How do you handle the inevitable fights? (Paula) Well, many times we do not agree and most of the time we solve the arguments by playing stone. , paper or scissors.

If it is something very serious, we take some time to reflect separately and then we talk about it.

We work great together, really. You are both still studying Teaching. (Aitana) Yes, just before talking to you we were doing homework.

Now we study remotely to be able to combine everything, but I believe that this course, if the Covid allows us, we will finish.

You never know what the future will bring you and before this success we always wanted to be teachers, so we are going to finish Teaching because we have a university degree.

Although the idea is to continue with the artistic career, you have already arrived at 'El Hormiguero', which is the absolute 'mainstream' in this country, it seems that things are on track. (Paula) We are super grateful because we know that it is a super important opportunity for we.

They treat us as if we were family, we had a great time and appearing on a well-watched TV show is a huge opportunity for us. In fact, 'El Hormiguero' has a fifth of viewers than you followers.

(Aitana) Yes, but it is not the same audience.

It is very good for us to also reach older people, around content creators the issue of money always flies: how much do you earn, how much do you not ... Does it bother you? (Paula) It doesn't bother us because, when they ask us, we don't we respond.

It's up to us.

We know that there are people who think that they earn a lot of money, but that is not polite to tell (laughs). More and more content creators are going to Andorra to pay less taxes.

What do you think of it? (Aitana) We understand that many go to Andorra, because it is a lot of money, but we live very well in Donosti and we stay here.

We are not considering leaving.

Here is our life, our family, our friends, the beach ... Last year we went on vacation to Andorra and it is very beautiful, but this is better. Do you feel responsibility having so many followers who are very young? (Paula) A Little yes, but we know that it is enough for us to do things according to our personality to be a good example.

That is to say, because of our way of being, we are not going to make racy or racist or controversial songs;

it is not an effort that we make with the public in mind.

We are very good girls (laughs).
