Kaiserslautern (dpa / lrs) - Because he is said to have killed his wife with an iron bar in July 2020, a 61-year-old man has to answer before the Kaiserslautern regional court from today.

The public prosecutor's office accuses the defendant of insidious murder - they assume that the German killed the 75-year-old in a state of incapacity in her sleep.

For the prosecution, placement in a psychiatric hospital comes into consideration (Ref .: 4 Ks 6111 Js 13492/20).

According to the investigation, the man is said to have sat in his car after the fact and had an accident in the Kusel district.

He was seriously injured in the process.

The man may have caused the accident intentionally to end his life, said a court spokesman.

Whether that was the case must be clarified by taking evidence.

Three more days of negotiation are planned for the process until mid-February.
