Teltow (dpa / bb) - After the confirmation of the African swine fever (ASF) in two wild boar carcasses outside the core area, the Brandenburg State Farmers' Association renewed its demand for the rapid construction of a solid fence around the area.

"Mobile fences that are not maintained do not offer sufficient, permanent protection," said LBV President Henrik Wendorff on Thursday.

The LBV president called on the Märkisch-Oderland district concerned to accelerate the construction of the still outstanding permanent fence system to replace the mobile fence.

Activities should be geared towards completing the wild boar removal in the core area and the adjacent white zone by the end of March.

This also applies to the other districts.

A very great responsibility now rests on the shoulders of the hunters.

The epidemic must be stopped, however, otherwise pig farming and spring sowing are extremely endangered.

The National Reference Laboratory for African Swine Fever (ASF) confirmed suspected ASF in 30 other wild boars on Wednesday.

The number of confirmed ASF cases in Brandenburg rose to 527. Two finds were located around two kilometers outside the core area in the Märkisch-Oderland district.

The free farmers, representing the interests of family farms, have meanwhile submitted proposals to the Ministry of Agriculture for cooperation in combating swine fever.

"Only if we maintain an attractive range of fodder for wild boar by growing grain, maize and rapeseed will it stay in the fenced-off zones and not carry the disease to other areas," said farmer Christoph Schulz from Atterwasch in the Spree-Neisse district who has developed a concept with his colleagues.

Based on this, according to the information, optimal conditions for efficient hunting could be created.
