Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The protective measures against the corona virus led to a significant decrease in infectious diseases in North Rhine-Westphalia in the past year.

A total of 32.5 percent less evidence was reported, the health insurance company DAK-Gesundheit announced on Thursday in Düsseldorf.

Infections with the very contagious norovirus have decreased by 64.2 percent.

Childhood diseases such as chickenpox have been reduced by more than half, and the rotavirus, which causes gastrointestinal diseases in young children, by more than 70 percent.

The data are based on an analysis of data from the Robert Koch Institute.

The main reason for the decline are the corona measures, explained the health insurance company.

"The transmission of many other dangerous diseases was prevented," said DAK country manager Klaus Overdiek.
