Berlin (dpa / bb) - Unknown people beat up and robbed an employee of a security company in Berlin-Friedrichshain.

The 21-year-old suffered injuries to the upper body and face, the police said.

The man had got out of the car on Rigaer Strasse on Thursday morning when a group of five approached him and he was suddenly headbutted in the face.

After a blow to the head with an emergency hammer, he was kicked in the ribs by at least one of those involved.

The employee did not want to receive medical treatment later.

The attackers also destroyed the windows of the car, damaged the vehicle and interior lighting, stole cell phones, jackets and wallets and fled.

When the 21-year-old tried to follow the group, one of the suspects threatened him with the knife.

The police do not rule out a political motive.

Therefore, the state security leads the investigation into the exact course of events.
