Hofheim / Frankfurt (dpa / lhe) - Despite the changed corona rules, the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) is continuing to offer trips by bus and train.

At the same time, a new mask distribution campaign will begin on Monday, announced RMV managing director Knut Ringat on Thursday.

OP masks and FFP2 masks would be output.

Starting in Frankfurt, mobile teams should be on the road to distribute the masks.

Initially, the FFP2 masks are also available for free.

Later they will be issued at cost price, also in the sales outlets in the RMV area.

The association has ordered hundreds of thousands of masks.

The top priority is that passengers can travel safely by bus and train, said Ringat.

The tightened mask requirement applies from Saturday, it will also be checked accordingly.

Medical masks such as FFP2 masks or surgical masks must then be worn in public transport, shops and church services.

A cloth, scarf or a fabric mask is no longer enough.

Employers must also make it possible to work from home wherever possible.

Therefore, fewer passengers can be expected.

The occupancy rate is currently 40 percent.

The RMV boss announced that despite lower income as a result of the pandemic, he wanted to stick to projects such as a new edition of the RMV app and further tests with autonomous vehicles.

Infrastructure projects are also to be driven forward.

This year the RMV wants to commission feasibility studies for regional tangents east and south, which are to become part of a rail ring around Frankfurt.
