Bonn / Bremen (dpa / lni) - The General Directorate for Waterways and Shipping has repealed an old, unworkable plan approval decision for deepening the fairway in the Outer and Lower Weser.

This should pave the way for a speedy restart of the process, the authority announced on Thursday in Bonn.

Bremen's port senator Claudia Schilling (SPD) welcomed the decision.

She expects the first planning steps to be implemented as quickly as possible.

"The Federal Transport Minister had confirmed to us in writing that with the inclusion of the fairway adjustment in the Measures Act Preparation Act, the procedure can now be planned and implemented more quickly," emphasized Schilling.

The project, which is also controversial in Bremen, involves deepening the Outer Weser as far as Bremerhaven and the section between Brake and Bremerhaven.
