Berka / Hainich (dpa) - In a bus accident almost a year ago, two children died in the Wartburg district (Thuringia), many were injured.

As a consequence of the accident, the bus stop in front of the primary school in Berka in front of the Hainich has now been relocated, said Karola Hunstock, chairwoman of the Hainich-Werratal administrative community.

"The bus now stops at a completely different place, about 30 meters in front of the school," says Hunstock.

With the relocation of the bus stop, it is no longer necessary for the bus to take the unfortunate route so that the children do not have to cross a street to get into the school building.

"Even a year later, the misfortune is painfully present in the memories of many people and also in mine," said Thuringia's Minister of Education Helmut Holter (left).

When children die in such a tragic way, it is a message that will not be forgotten.

The accident bus slipped on an icy slope on January 23, 2020 on the way to elementary school, overturned and tipped into a ditch.

Two eight-year-old children died and many were injured.

The public prosecutor's office closed the investigation in July as no criminal culpability could be determined.
