Freiberg am Neckar (dpa / lsw) - A major oil pollution has been discovered on the Neckar near Freiberg in the Ludwigsburg district.

According to the police on Wednesday evening, the oil film was about 50 by 50 meters.

The fire brigade erected oil barriers after the discovery to prevent the oil from spreading further.

Shipping on the Neckar remained closed in this area overnight.

The SWR reported first.

A motor ship was the cause of the pollution.

The skipper stated that he accidentally pumped out oil on Wednesday afternoon.

5000 liters of oil-water mixture ended up in the river.

The skipper was forbidden to continue the voyage and a report awaits him.
