Berlin (dpa / bb) - A light installation at the French embassy in Berlin will commemorate the victims of National Socialism until next week.

The projection of the names of victims on the facade of the embassy at the Brandenburg Gate will bring commemoration into the cityscape and the present in the evening hours from Thursday until Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, the Arolsen Archives said.

The archive is considered the world's most comprehensive collection on victims and survivors of National Socialism and documents information on around 17.5 million people.

The installation is designed by the artist Till Botterweck from the Urbanscreen design studio.

The installation is also the prelude to the Franco-German Week, which is also intended to commemorate the signing of the Franco-German Élysée Treaty.

The Arolsen Archives also want to draw attention to their #everynamecounts project, where volunteers can digitize documents from concentration camps from home.
