Trier (dpa / lrs) - There is a hands-on offer for children that can take place despite Corona: The Kinderwingert project on the Middle Moselle and on the Saar.

From March 6th, children from six to twelve years of age can take part in courses to experience the work in the vineyard first hand, tend “their” vines throughout the year and harvest the grapes in autumn, as the Moselwein Association in Trier announced.

Grape juice is then pressed from the grapes.

The courses are offered by cultural and wine ambassadors in Saarburg, Trittenheim and Traben-Trarbach.

Registrations are possible until March 1st.

The children should be brought closer to the winemaking tradition and culture of the region while working in the Wingert (vineyard).

In addition, it is conveyed that the vineyard is a habitat for many rare insects, animals and plants, the association said.

"Since the meetings take place outdoors and we form small groups, we can adhere to the distance and hygiene rules," said culture and wine ambassador Marlene Bollig in Trittenheim.

However, it could be that the dates would be postponed due to weather conditions or due to contact restrictions as a result of Corona.

The Kinderwingert project has existed on the Moselle since 2011.

In 2019 it was extended to the Saar.
