Koblenz / Münster (dpa) - There were two further arrests in connection with a Koblenz trial for international drug trafficking with more than a ton of heroin.

On Wednesday, the handcuffs clicked on a 38-year-old suspect in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia, as the public prosecutor in Koblenz and the Berlin-Brandenburg customs investigation office announced on Thursday.

During a raid on his home, "extensive evidence" had been secured.

In addition, according to the information, a suspect was arrested in Hunedoara, Romania.

Both men should come into custody.

Under the direction of the Koblenz Public Prosecutor's Office, the Berlin-Brandenburg Customs Investigation Office took over the extensive international investigations.

It had previously investigated related drug trafficking cases in its area.

The investigation continues.

Two other men have been standing before the Koblenz Regional Court since December 22nd: According to the public prosecutor, they are said to have participated in the trucking of heroin from Iran to Germany in October to November 2019.

As part of an international gang, they would also have been involved in trading it.

The 1.1 tons of heroin, which were originally transported in concealment, were discovered during an inspection in Kazakhstan.

Only about half a kilogram of the drug remained in the truck and made it to Germany.

According to a court spokeswoman, both defendants did not provide any information about the allegations at the start of the trial.

According to a spokesman for the Berlin-Brandenburg customs investigation office, the investigators had initially assumed “that Germany should only be a transit country” and that the heroin was intended for the Netherlands or Belgium.

Then the two defendants from Koblenz suddenly ended their trip in the Andernach area.
