Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The health authorities in Rhineland-Palatinate registered 821 new corona infections on Thursday.

The total number since the beginning of the pandemic rose to 87,825 (as of 2:10 p.m.), as the state investigation office announced.

Currently, 15 096 people in the country are infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus.

The number of patients who died with or from Covid-19 rose by 29 to 2216.

Within 24 hours, 70 Covid 19 patients were brought to one of the Rhineland-Palatinate hospitals by noon on Thursday.

Of 187 Covid-19 patients currently being treated in intensive care units, 102 patients have to be ventilated, according to data from the intensive care register of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (Divi) on Thursday.

The so-called seven-day incidence, i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days, was 100.0 on Thursday in the whole of Rhineland-Palatinate and thus below the value a week ago (118.7).

Nationwide there are currently 119.0.

The highest incidence is now in the Birkenfeld district with 214.9.

This is followed by the Südliche Weinstrasse district (169.2), the city of Ludwigshafen (167.8) and the Bad Kreuznach district (147.8).

Three municipalities are under an incidence of 50: the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm (45.4), the city of Trier (45.7) and the city of Zweibrücken (49.7).
