Hamburg (dpa) - The second division soccer team Hamburger SV will get rid of its high earner Bobby Wood before the contract expires next June, according to a report by "The Athletic".

The 28-year-old American is said to have signed a preliminary contract with Real Salt Lake from Major League Soccer.

Wood would get a two-year contract in Utah.

Whether he will return to his home country before the end of his contract in Hamburg depends on when the MLS starts its season, the report said.

Wood had switched from Union Berlin to the former Bundesliga club from Hamburg in 2016 for four million euros and was given a well-paid contract.

But he was never able to fulfill the hopes placed in him.

In the meantime, he was loaned to Hannover 96 in the 2018/19 season.

Also in this season Wood comes to the second division leaders only a few appearances.

Internal competition like striker Simon Terodde is too strong.

In the current transfer period, the Hamburg team have loaned Xavier Amaechi to their league rivals Karlsruher SC.

The Austrian striker Lukas Hinterseer is also about to say goodbye.

According to media reports, the 29-year-old's new destination will be Ulsan Hyundai in South Korea.

The HSV had released him for negotiations with another club.
