Under Joe Biden, the US President's office, the Oval Office, is getting a slightly new look.

When Biden invited into the room on Wednesday, reporters were able to see framed family photos on the table behind the President.

A portrait of US Founding Father Benjamin Franklin was hung on a wall.

Biden will also use a dark blue rug instead of the lighter one that his predecessor made part of the interior.

What remains is the so-called Resolute Desk - an oak desk, built from the British polar exploration ship "HMS Resolute".

Biden's deputy, Kamala Harris, will not move to the vice-president's residence for the time being.

First there will be repair work on the home in the Naval Observatory, the AP news agency learned from its team of advisors.

Accordingly, repairs to the fireplace are necessary, which can be done more easily without residents.

Former Senator Harris has a flat in Washington that she lived in while she was working in Congress.

It is unclear whether it will stay there until the repair work is complete.
