China News Service, January 21. According to foreign media reports, on the 20th local time, Iranian President Rouhani called on the new US President Biden to return to the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue and lift the sanctions imposed on Iran by former US President Trump.

According to reports, just hours before Biden took office as US President, Rouhani said in a live-TV cabinet meeting on the 20th local time, “If the United States returns to the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement, then we will also fully comply with our Commitment under this agreement."

Rouhani also criticized Trump on the same day, saying that during his administration, "except for injustice and corruption, nothing was achieved, which caused problems for the American people and the world."

During his campaign for US president, Biden previously stated that he would resume negotiations with the Iranian government using the Iran nuclear agreement "as a starting point."

If Iran can strictly abide by the Iran nuclear agreement again, the United States will "return to the agreement."

Iran reached an Iran nuclear agreement with the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany in 2015, promising to limit its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions by the United Nations, the United States and the European Union.

However, the US Trump administration unilaterally withdrew from the Iran nuclear agreement in May 2018, and subsequently restarted and added sanctions against Iran, pursuing a policy of "maximum pressure".

From May 2019, Iran has gradually suspended the implementation of certain provisions of the Iran nuclear agreement, but promised that the measures taken are reversible.
