Prague (dpa) - Six months after a fatal train accident in the Ore Mountains, the investigations have been concluded.

Two passengers were killed in the collision of two railcars in the Czech border area with Germany, including a 49-year-old German.

The immediate cause was human failure of one of the two railcar drivers, the railway inspection in Prague announced on Thursday.

The man had left the Pernink station without the permission of the dispatcher instead of waiting for the oncoming train to cross, it said in the final report.

He himself was seriously injured in the collision.

The accident happened on July 7, 2020 on the single-track branch line between Karlsbad (Karlovy Vary) and Johanngeorgenstadt in Saxony.

The investigators also criticized the lack of technical protection of the route and recommended improvements.

Security systems could have prevented precisely this human error.

The Czech state railway CD had reacted to the accident by developing its own mobile phone app for its train staff.

This enables train drivers to see the location of all trains, which is determined via GPS.

If two trains come too close on a single track, a warning signal sounds.
