Inside the Grande Ourse squat -

Prefecture of Maine-et-Loire

A few months after the court decision pronounced last October, the squat of the Big Dipper was evacuated this Thursday in Angers.

The police intervened in the early morning in this old furniture store located on the edge of Maine, occupied for over a year.

"People without accommodation were welcomed there in unacceptable conditions of insalubrity and danger, due to the dilapidated nature of the building, the accumulation of various materials and waste and the numerous electrical connections", indicates the prefecture of Maine-et -Loire which specifies that the operations took place "in peace".

Nine people present

In recent days, several demonstrations or gatherings had taken place in support of the Big Dipper collective, whose members (migrants, precarious workers, students, etc.) had already been evicted from former premises of the CPAM in 2019.

This morning, nine people were present at the time of the intervention and were the subject of an identity check.

“To respond to the health emergency, temporary accommodation solutions were offered to occupants,” indicates the prefecture.

[…] The people present in the squat will be subject to an individual examination of their administrative situation in order to verify their right to stay.
