The "ROC" (Race of Champions) motor race is known for attracting drivers from the world's top elite.
They gather from the top classes such as Formula 1 and IndyCar, and in the past, legendary athletes such as Michael Schumacher and Colin McRae have participated.
The race will be run in January next year and the idea is that it will be an annual event.
- It will be the largest event that has been carried out in Norrbotten.
It is very gratifying that it entails many new jobs in the long term, says Björn O Nilsson, Governor of Norrbotten.
Wembley is replaced by the sea bath
The competition has been decided at arenas such as "Wembley Stadium" in London and "Stade de Frace" in Paris - and now it is coming to Piteå.
The driver line-up will be announced on an ongoing basis and they will be pitted against each other on a completely new surface.
- In the past, it has been a very narrow course inside an arena.
This will be a world-unique event where it is run on frozen sea, says Fredrik Johnsson, president and co-founder of "ROC".
Kristoffersson lyrical
Swedish rally driver Johan Kristoffersson has tested the track and undeniably likes what he sees.
- It is so much fun to drive and skid through the curves.
It will be a challenge, but I think all drivers will love it, he says.
