January 21, 2021 "If the vaccine is approved by EMA, we will be able to talk about agreements on production and even use," said Angela Merkel, responding to a question about Sputnik V, the Russian anticovid vaccine.

Merkel stressed that she has offered that through the Paul Ehrlich institut Russia has "development support" of the vaccine.

"Beyond the political differences which are wide, we can certainly work together in a pandemic, in a humanitarian sector", explained the chancellor.

Meanwhile, Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF, the Russian sovereign fund) announces that the Sputnik V vaccine has been approved by the National Institute of Pharmacy and Nutrition of Hungary (OGYÉI).

Thus Hungary became the first country in the European Union to authorize the use of Sputnik V.

The vaccine was approved under the authorization procedure for emergency use.

The approval is based on the results of the Sputnik V clinical tests in Russia and a comprehensive evaluation of the vaccine by experts in Hungary.

The RDIF does.

"The Hungarian authorities have given the green light to the Astrazeneca vaccine, but we cannot start a mass campaign because the EMA has not yet approved it", says the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Hungarian Council, Gregory Gulyas, stressing that "as soon as the EU will start shipments there will be no obstacles to mass vaccination in Hungary ".
