Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - After the decision by the federal and state governments on OP and FFP2 masks, the NRW police are sticking to the new tender for 1.25 million masks made of fabric.

The so-called community masks "continue to meet the requirements of the police, as they offer good protection for the counterpart in normal situations", according to the responsible State Office for Central Police Services (LZPD).

It is therefore "not planned to withdraw or adapt the tender in connection with the community masks."

There had been problems with the procurement because the original order to the van Laack company had formal errors and was withdrawn.

The LZPD's new tender was published a few days ago.

"The community masks are cheaper from an economic as well as an ecological point of view, as surgical masks have a significantly shorter shelf life," according to the LZPD.

In special situations - for example when entering old people's homes - the police already use FFP2 masks.

This week, the federal and state governments agreed on a requirement for medical surgical masks or the particularly good protective FFP2 masks, including in local public transport.
