Lüneburg (dpa / lni) - An exhibition in Lüneburg is dedicated to the 100th birthday of Joseph Beuys (1921-1986).

From May 9 to August 1, 2021, the Kunsthalle Lüneburg will be showing posters and multiples by the artist from its own art archive as well as loans from private collections, as well as factory photos and portraits in the Kulturbäckerei.

Most of the works come from the Lüneburg art archive, the Kunsthalle announced on Thursday.

One focus is on the project “7000 oak trees - urban deforestation instead of city administration”, which Beuys contributed to documenta 7 in 1982 and which is gaining new relevance due to the current sustainability discourse.

The curation was carried out by Daniela Sannwald in cooperation with Siegfried Sander from the Multiple Box gallery.

Joseph Beuys was born on May 12, 1921 in Krefeld, the son of a businessman.

The sculptor worked with unorthodox methods and expanded the concept of art.

He worked as a professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy.
