The Dubai Health Authority decided to suspend all elective surgeries (medically unnecessary) until February 19, in line with the efforts of the Dubai government to maintain the highest levels of community health and safety.

The authority clarified in a circular of its destination to all hospitals licensed by it, as well as one-day surgery clinics, that this step comes within the framework of precautionary measures aimed at confronting the Corona virus, given what is currently required of concerted efforts, and to ensure the readiness of the health system in the emirate to provide care Required health for sick cases.

She stated that Dubai Health Insurance Corporation will stop health insurance for unnecessary elective surgeries.

She emphasized that the decision aims to give priority to urgent and most important health cases, and applies to elective operations that require deep anesthesia or general anesthesia, and allows operations of medical necessity for the patient's health condition, according to the assessment and evaluation of the attending physician, and includes surgeries of medical necessity. Neurology, orthopedic operations, cardiac and radiological interventions, removal of stones and stents in the urinary tract, and other urgent medical interventions in general surgery, ophthalmology, pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics.

With regard to surgeries that do not require deep or general anesthesia, the attending physician must conduct all necessary assessments to ensure that the patient undergoing surgery will not require his health to convert the level of anesthesia into deep anesthesia, or require his transfer to the hospital, or may require a transfer the blood.
