Berlin (dpa / bb) - According to the Senate and the district, the quarantine hotel in Berlin-Neukölln has hardly been occupied so far.

Eleven people have been accommodated in the hotel in Jahnstrasse since mid-November, a spokesman for the district office said on Tuesday.

The reason for the low utilization is therefore that domestic quarantine has priority.

So far, there have not been so many cases in which hotel accommodation was necessary.

In addition, the offer is voluntary.

According to the Berlin Senate, following a request from CDU MP Emine Demirbüken-Wegner, he rents all 57 rooms in the hotel for accommodation.

Cost per room: 55 euros regardless of occupancy.

That would be 3135 euros per day.

Additional costs for breakfast, dinner and lunch would be charged for each guest accommodated.

According to the Senate, a maximum of two rooms have been occupied at the same time since mid-November.

The hotel is the central accommodation for all districts.

The CDU MP described the concept of the quarantine hotel as "failed".

"Costs and benefits are out of proportion," said Demirbüken-Wegner of the German press agency.

She requested a better occupancy or to discontinue the measure.

According to the district office spokesman, the measure was extended until the end of March.

An increasing occupancy has been registered in the past few weeks.

It is therefore expected that the occupancy will continue to increase.

It remains to be seen whether this is the case.
