Stuttgart (dpa) - Honorary captain Guido Buchwald has criticized Thomas Hitzlsperger for his public attack on VfB Stuttgart's President Claus Vogt.

"It doesn't work that way," said the 1990 soccer world champion of the German press agency.

One could not accuse the head of the association as chairman of the board of the AG in an open letter, so to speak, inability.

"Such an attack goes against any code of honor that VfB imposes on the outside world," said Buchwald, who won the German championship with Stuttgart in 1984 and 1992 and will celebrate his 60th birthday on Sunday.

Problems have to be dealt with internally.

In terms of content, however, he does not trust himself to be able to judge the conflict between the club and AG bosses.

The development was “very worrying”, he told the specialist magazine “kicker” (Thursday).

Buchwald also does not like Hitzlsperger's goal of replacing Vogt as president of the Bundesliga club.

One should not exercise both offices in personal union, he explained.

"Regardless of whether the statutes allow it or not."

Buchwald cannot understand that the association's advisory board hired a “headhunter” long after the application deadline to find more candidates itself.

"The association's advisory board plays a very unfortunate role."

Especially against the background of the sporting success and the “beautiful” football under coach Pellegrino Matarazzo, Buchwald thinks it is a shame that the tenth in the table once again does not give a good picture in public.

"For me as a VfB player, it's nice that something is growing together again at VfB."

Just not at the club's management level.
