IOC Chairman Thomas Bach has announced that he will hold the Tokyo Olympics scheduled for July.

However, while the spread of Corona 19 has seldom stopped, there are still voices in Japan to postpone or cancel it again.

Chairman Bach said in a video interview with Kyodo News, "There is no reason for the Tokyo Olympics not to start on July 23rd."

"I will focus on having a safe and successful Olympic Games rather than having an alternative," he stressed.

Chairman Bach also visited Japan in person in November of last year and helped to host the Tokyo Olympics.

The IOC will hold a general meeting in Athens, Greece from March 10, and will decide whether to host the Tokyo Olympics.

According to NHK Broadcasting, there were 5,642 new confirmed corona19 confirmed cases in Japan on the 21st day yesterday (the 21st), which continued to be around 5,000 for the third day.

The death toll increased by 84 a day to 4,876.

As three people who have not stayed abroad have been found to be infected with a mutant COVID-19 from the UK, concerns about the mutant virus are also rising.

As the Corona 19 situation has become more serious than last year, there are many opinions in Japan that the Olympics should be postponed or canceled altogether.

According to a recent poll conducted by Kyodo News, 35.3% of respondents "must stop" and 44.8% of respondents "must re-act" to the Tokyo Olympics.

The Japanese government plans to finish most of the COVID-19 vaccinations of people aged 16 and older starting from the end of next month and until July when the Olympics are held.
