Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - When appointments for the corona vaccinations started on Monday, the two associations of statutory health insurance physicians asked the over 80-year-olds in North Rhine-Westphalia to be patient.

At the beginning, a very high number of calls is expected, the organizations announced in a joint statement on Thursday in Düsseldorf.

"It's no secret when I say that we expect problems with making appointments - both online and by phone," said Dirk Spelmeyer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Westphalia-Lippe Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians.

"Everyone who wants to be vaccinated will have a turn, but patience is required - at least until more vaccine is available."

At the moment nobody can predict with certainty when this will be the case.

There is currently only a limited amount of vaccine available - "and therefore only a limited number of appointments.

It will not run smoothly, we are aware of that », Spelmeyer continues.

The limiting factor in the vaccination campaign is the amount of vaccine available.

"That we can vaccinate quickly and efficiently when the vaccine is available is shown by the vaccinations carried out by mobile teams in the senior citizens' and nursing homes since December 27th."

According to the announcement, around 380,000 people in North Rhine-Westphalia will have received an initial vaccination by the end of this week.

The chairman of the board of KV Nordrhein, Frank Bergmann, emphasized that nobody should be concerned about being late to arrange a vaccination appointment.
