Hanover (dpa / lni) - The influence of women on agriculture in Lower Saxony has increased somewhat.

The number of female farm managers on farms in Lower Saxony grew by 400 to 3400 from 2010 to 2020. This means that around 10 percent of all farms were managed by a woman last year, the Lower Saxony State Statistics Office announced on Thursday in Hanover.

The first results of the agricultural census as of March 1, 2020 were presented. In Germany, this agricultural census is carried out every ten years.

The structural change in the industry is meanwhile continuing.

The number of businesses has fallen in the past ten years by 14.9 percent to 35,500 in Lower Saxony.

The average farm size increased from 62 to 73 hectares.
