In November 2015, a police patrol drove into the water during a car chase on a bridge in Vikavattnet outside Fredrika.

A 25-year-old female police officer died and another police officer was seriously injured.

On Wednesday, a truck drove through the railing on the bridge and ended up on the ice.

The front of the truck went partly through the ice, but the driver was helped to get out of the cab and survived without serious injuries.

- There have been many accidents here, states Ulf Lundström, rescue chief on standby.

New assessment

The rescue service has several times pointed out the inappropriate curve for the Swedish Transport Administration.

But the Swedish Transport Administration has previously judged that the speed in the curve over the bridge was low, the lighting was good and therefore took no action.

But now the authority is considering making improvements across the bridge.

In the first stage, barriers are set up against the railing.

- We will take a turn, put up barriers along the road and as soon as the frost has left the ground, we will replace the railings and extend the railings by about 20 meters, says Louise Dahlberg, unit manager maintenance at the Swedish Transport Administration.
