A 17-year-old high school student was stabbed in Guadeloupe this Wednesday morning, around 7 am, in front of his establishment.

One of his comrades was arrested and taken into custody, we learned from corroborating sources.

An investigation for "willful violence with a weapon" was opened and entrusted to the Moule Research Brigade, said Patrick Desjardins, public prosecutor of Pointe-à-Pitre.

"A really futile motive"

The teenager was injured "while he wanted to intervene" during a fight between two of his comrades, said for his part the rectorate in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon.

"The precise circumstances remain to be established", affirms the prosecutor, however evoking an altercation which broke out "for a really futile motive".

The suspect, another high school student arrested shortly after and whose custody was lifted a few hours later, is "not at all known to the services and presents guarantees of representation", said the prosecutor.

His custody may resume later, in particular after hearing the victim.

"Unacceptable acts of violence"

The injured youngster, whose vital prognosis is not engaged, "showed great civic sense", according to the Rectorate who denounces "unacceptable acts of violence".

"The academic listening cell will be triggered" and "disciplinary action will be given", further specifies the rectorate.

The circulation of arms in Guadeloupe is a problem taken very seriously by the authorities, including in schools.

This Tuesday, 200 high school students were checked in front of a high school in Capesterre-Belle-Eau (commune of Basse-Terre).

"A pair of scissors, a metal bar and a switchblade knife" were seized, according to the National Police.
