The energy turnaround wanted by the population and politicians "must also be allowed to be visible in the landscape: with photovoltaic and wind energy systems and with power grids," said vbw Managing Director Bertram Brossardt on Wednesday in Munich.
"If you want the energy transition, you have to be able to see it happen."
"The interim balance sheet on the state of the energy transition in Germany is sobering," said Brossardt and called for more speed and determination in the expansion of the grids and renewable energies. The power supply is still secure; But safety measures, the curtailment of wind turbines and the start-up of fossil power plants already cost 1.2 billion euros in 2019. If the grid expansion does not go faster, there is a threat of “a further rise in the already far too high electricity prices”. For a climate-friendly industry and the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy, low electricity prices are necessary. The EEG surcharge and the electricity tax would have to be reduced.
