Berlin (dpa / bb) - The Berlin Senate is providing a further 4.5 million euros for the purchase of air filter devices in schools.

A spokesman for the education administration announced on Wednesday upon request.

Around 1200 air filter devices are to be purchased from state funds for the sum.

The Senate made a corresponding decision at its meeting on Wednesday afternoon.

This time, however, the acquisition should not be carried out via the districts as in the first phase, but centrally.

The Senate Department for Finance will order the devices.

“Of course, we are also open to additional purchases of air filter devices,” said the spokesman for the education administration.

The “Berliner Morgenpost” had previously reported on it (Wednesday).

As early as in autumn, the Senate promised the districts 4.5 million euros for the purchase of such devices from state funds, but argued that they should primarily only be used in rooms where ventilation is difficult.

Critics complained that only a fraction of the classrooms could be equipped with 1200 devices for around 800 Berlin schools.

The acquisition of the equipment by the districts was also progressing more slowly than they initially expected.

The ordered devices have still not arrived in many schools.

However, there were considerable differences depending on the district.

In some districts, the air filter devices were already in use before they were even ordered in others.
