Dresden (dpa / sn) - In Saxony's state budget there is a gap of 196 million euros.

As of December 31, there were around 21.4 billion euros in revenue and expenditure of around 21.6 billion euros, the Ministry of Finance announced on Wednesday.

"The preliminary annual financial statements 2020 clearly show the fairway in which the Saxon state budget is moving due to corona," said Finance Minister Hartmut Vorjohann (CDU).

It is true that the first tough cuts through the "Corona coping fund" have been avoided for the time being.

From the next double budget at the latest, however, one can no longer avoid adjusting expenses to lower income and setting priorities.

According to the Ministry of Finance, tax revenues fell by around 1.7 billion euros or ten percent last year compared to budget planning.

A total of around 15 billion euros in taxes was collected.

The investments were still just under 3.3 billion euros and thus 400 million euros above the value of the previous year.

Thanks to the continued high investment rate of 15.3 percent, the company remains “a strong partner for the construction industry and the trades”, emphasized Vorjohann.

A high level of investment must also be the goal for the next few years.

Quotas of 14.7 percent and 14 percent, respectively, are planned this year and next.

Because of the pandemic, Saxony decided not to reduce its debt.

With the establishment of the "Corona-Bewältigungsfonds" new loans amounting to 1.5 billion euros were taken out, it said.

The total debt has thus increased to 12.3 billion euros.
