Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - The process of infidelity against the suspended Lord Mayor of Homburg Rüdiger Schneidewind (SPD) is drawing to a close.

Today the pleadings in the so-called "detective affair" are expected.

According to a court spokeswoman, a verdict will fall on Wednesday next week (January 27, 9:00 a.m.).

The 52-year-old had already been sentenced to 15 months probation by the regional court in February 2019 because the chamber at the time was convinced that he had employees of the construction depot monitored without informing the city council.

The detective agency had billed the city around 328,000 euros.

However, the mayor was only authorized to award contracts up to 25,000 euros independently.

After the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) had overturned the judgment a year ago, the case was reopened by the Saarbrücken Regional Court at the end of November.

At the start of the new process, Schneidewind had admitted mistakes, apologized and offered the city money out of pocket.

Specifically, he had offered to pay 81,000 euros himself.

An insurance company would pay a further 125,000 euros, leaving the city with a remaining amount of 29,000 euros.

In his view, 93,000 euros were wrongly invoiced.
