Hours before leaving office, US President Donald Trump ordered the declassification of a file of documents related to the work of the FBI regarding possible Russian interference in his 2016 presidential campaign, which led to a lengthy investigation during his presidency.

Trump - who had been for a long time trying to prove that Democrats sought to use the investigation to topple him - added in a note that some revisions had been made to the documents in order to allow for their disclosure.

And Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller announced after a lengthy investigation that Russia would not interfere in favor of Trump's campaign during the 2016 elections.

The United States imposed new sanctions on Russia the previous month, after it was accused of a cyber attack targeting US government agencies, and the Kremlin said that these sanctions are a new hostile step by the outgoing administration in Washington.
