Berlin (dpa) - The actual head coach Aito García Reneses initially only sees himself as an assistant coach at the German basketball champions Alba Berlin after having survived the corona infection.
"At the moment Israel Gonzalez is the head coach - and he will stay that way for the time being," said Aito to Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB).
Shortly after Christmas, the news of the 74-year-old being infected with the corona virus caused a shock to the double winner.
After the positive result, the away game at Syntainics MBC in Weißenfels had to be canceled at short notice.
More than three weeks after his infection, Aito trained with his team for the first time last Monday.
In his absence, deputy Gonzalez had taken over.
“It is important that I recover completely.
And besides, Israel is doing a very good job, ”said Aito.
